MixPrep
Sorts out your stems and builds a Pro Tools import plan.
MixPrep reads a Pro Tools template, identifies what kind of audio each file is, and first builds an import plan you can check. Once you confirm it, MixPrep helps you create tracks, set up routing, name tracks, add colors, set panning, import the audio and cut out silent sections (strip-silence).
macOS only for now · No installer yet
This is still a prototype. It works in the author’s own Pro Tools setup, but it’s young and rough in places. It needs recording and mixing engineers, Pro Tools power users, and Swift / macOS and Python developers to help make it solid.
What it does
From a pile of stems to a plan you can check first and then import.
-
Reads the template
Starts from a Pro Tools template and reads the session structure, folder hierarchy and routing.
-
Identifies the stems
Sorts the audio files into categories and lays them out as a track plan that you can import later and also check.
-
Builds the plan
You check it first. Then come the steps for creating tracks, naming, colors, panning, importing and cutting silence.
Before you use it
It has been tested with a limited set of templates and stems, so MixPrep can’t promise to fit every way of working.
-
macOS only
It only runs on macOS for now. Windows isn’t supported yet.
-
The templates are personal
The included pop, classical and atmos templates are the author’s own working templates. They reflect only the author’s routing, naming and mixing habits.
-
Check the plan before importing
Always check the generated plan before importing, and always try it on a copy of your Pro Tools session.
-
Custom templates need structure
Don’t leave a basic folder or routing folder empty. Put at least one audio track in every folder so MixPrep can read the structure and routing correctly.
Known issues
Problems users have reported that aren’t fixed yet.
- June 27, 2026
- After a batch import, only one audio track was created in each folder. The track creation logic still needs to be looked into.
- June 28, 2026
- Every audio track was renamed to the session name. Naming after import still needs fixing.
